Christmas in july 2010 As the only toy specific press preview of the summer, Christmas in July is the event journalists attend when writing their Christmas toy features. With a central London location, luxurious surroundings and a free lunch, journalists last year were queuing to get in... Record attendance for 2010 Well over 200 members of the press flocked through the doors of the Camden Centre in London last week (6th July) to attend the most successful Christmas in July event to date. Now in its 5th year and the only toy specific press preview of the summer, Christmas in July continues to draw in journalists with the opportunity to view the top ‘must have’ toys of the year before they hit the shop shelves in time for Christmas. Paul Miller, editor of It’s Fate Magazine comments: "Finley and I enjoyed it immensely – a fantastic display of toys coming up for Christmas." The Bizziebaby.co.uk team also rated the event highly with Promotions Manager Becky Taylor commenting: "A great event, Christmas in July, which is organised exclusively by Evolution PR, once again attracted many top toy brands this year Claire Taylor, Project Manager for the event commented: "The Camden Centre proved a big hit with both exhibitors and visitors as it is so easy to access – directly opposite Kings Cross St Pancreas Station. The hall is spacious and stands were bigger this year than ever before. Of course, free refreshments and goody bags were hugely popular too!" www.christmasinjuly.co.uk |

______________________________________________________________________________________________ Christmas in August for Selfridge's It seems that Christmas comes earlier and earlier each year. But for shoppers in one London store that was certainly true this week. Selfridge's in Oxford Street has opened its Christmas shop, displaying it's seasonal array of baubles, festive ornaments, Christmas trees and tinsel -- with more than 140 days to go until December 25th. Geraldine James, the store's Christmas decorations buyer, made the decision to open six days earlier than last year, hopeing to cash in on summer tourists wanting festive souvenirs. Selfridge's will not reveal sales figures, but did say that sales of Christmas decorations last August accounted for five percent of all their Christmas sales. The upmarket store has 25,000 different lines of Christmas decorations. Its best-selling item is a Union Jack bauble of hand-blown and decorated glass. London and British-themed baubles were a big attraction for tourists keen to take a memento home to remind themselves of their summer holiday in the UK. Selfridge's isn't the only store in London to sell Christmas items at the height of summer. Harrods also opens its Christmas department in August and the toy store Hamleys has already unveiled its list of what will be the hot toys this year. |
